11-01-2010 Noon Books Sandwiched InAtlantic Highlands Public Library Marge Levine has worked as an artist in various media from the start of her career, when, after graduating from the Fashion Institute of Technology, she went into textile designing. Branching out independently after that, she worked in more decorative arts, creating greeting cards, posters, and then illustrating two children's books. She continued experimenting with other media, and worked in colored pencils, then in etching and lithography. About ten years ago she found the medium which allows her the fullest expression of her artistic vision and ambitions, pastels. She initially developed her skills in that medium by taking work shop with pastel Masters, such as Richard McKinley, Albert Handel, Duane Wakeham, and Alan Flattman, and living for short periods in Europe, particularly in Italy, and in various regions in the United States. Her work has turned almost completely to landscapes, and reflects the light and contours of the places in which she has lived and visited. As a member of the Plein Air Artists of the Jersey Coast, she has discovered and depicts the beauty of the Eastern seaboard of the U.S. Books Sandwiched In meets the first Monday of the month at Noon at the Atlantic Highlands Library – currently residing in the Firemen’s Field House at 48 Avenue C.
