Tribute Tree in the Honor of Mayor Helen Marchetti
July 7, 1925 - September 19, 2023
The Shade Tree Commission from time to time votes to dedicate a tree in the name of an individual to be recognized for their community service and dedication to the Borough of Atlantic Highlands. Candidates for this award can be nominated by any Atlantic Highlands resident or business.
This year’s nomination goes to Mayor Helen Marchetti, a long-time resident of Atlantic Highlands for over 70 years.
Mayor Helen Marchetti has an outstanding history of public service and community work. A native of Atlantic Highlands, she has held every public office possible promoting the pride she has for this town and always strived to continue its high standards.
Born on the second floor of the house in which she lived almost all of her nearly 100 years of living, Helen is as happy recalling every store on First Avenue from the 1920s and her father’s milk route, as she is in citing the latest improvements and changes in a town she knows so well.
Helen has always been an active part of the political, business, social, and church communities, spending a lifetime in love with her town and its people. - First female mayor of Atlantic Highlands (1984)
- Member of the Atlantic Highlands Borough Council
- Served 20 years on the Atlantic Highlands Harbor Commission
- Member of the Atlantic Highlands Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary
- Member of the Atlantic Highlands Board of Education for 20 years
- President of the Atlantic Highlands Board of Education for nine years
- Served 12 years on the Atlantic Highlands Historical Society
- Member of the Atlantic Highlands Lions Club
- Membership chair of the Atlantic Highlands Yacht Club
- Active parishioner at St. Agnes Church
- Supervised the Food Pantry at the Atlantic Highlands United Methodist Church
