Contact Your Local Police Department for Safety Concerns

On The Street

  1. Be aware of your surroundings.
  2. Stay in well-lit areas.
  3. Do not carry excessive cash.

In Your Car

  1. STAY OFF YOUR CELL PHONE – IT CAN WAIT
  2. Keep your car in good working order, including gas and all fluids.
  3. If you are being followed, go to the nearest Police Station or public business.

In Parking Lots

  1. Park under a light when possible
  2. Note where you parked your car for a quick and safe exit.

At Home

  1. Routinely lock all your windows and doors.
  2. Keep entrances well lit when possible.
  3. Get to know your neighbors.
  4. Use a deadbolt lock. Door chains are not sufficient protection.

Child Safety

  1. Never approach, accompany or accept gifts from strangers.
  2. Teach children to report any suspicious incidents to a parent or trusted adult.
  3. Teach children to never hitchhike.
  4. Develop a habit of children telling you where they are going and when they will return.
  5. Have children play in groups and avoid secluded areas.
  6. Teach children their full name, address, phone number and how to dial 911.

Child Street Safety

  1. Obey street signs and signals.
  2. Utilize crosswalks and safe crossing at corners.
  3. Encourage the use of sidewalks.
  4. Look both ways before crossing the streets.
  5. Be aware of their surroundings.
